What is this treatment?
Prescription only medicine professionally administered for 18 years and over. Essentially, this product is a naturally occurring protein extract and is generally well-tolerated in the minute levels administered for cosmetic use. The protein relaxes wrinkle-causing muscles creating a refreshed look. The active ingredient is derived from bacteria in sterile laboratory conditions and is a prescription-only medication. The treatments usually take between 15-45 minutes depending on the treatment requested. An initial consultation is required to assess suitability for the medication.
How long will the effects last?
When the frown lines are relaxed after a treatment, the skin around the area will look smooth and less wrinkled. You will still be able to laugh, smile and frown, just with less wrinkling of the skin in the treated area. This treatment may last up to approximately 4 months. Each individual is different and results cannot be guaranteed. Regular treatments may help improve the longevity of the treatment’s effects.
How does it work?
A very small dose of the prescription medicine is administered and injected into the specific frown muscles causing lines and wrinkles. This temporarily prevents the contraction of muscles that causes frown lines. The product blocks the nerve ending signals resulting in a reduction of muscle activity. Once the muscles are relaxed, the overlying wrinkles may soften and reduce.
Are there side effects?
As with any cosmetic medical treatment, occasional side effects can occur. These can include headaches, pain, bruising, swelling, itchiness, a feeling of pins and needles or redness at the injection site and flu-like symptoms. Muscle weakness such as drooping eyelids or eyebrows along with swelling of the eyelids or eye muscles may also occur. If you experience any of these unwanted side effects you should consult contact us straight away. Although uncommon – these side effects can occur and will be discussed at your consultation.
When are results seen?
Most people start to see results from from 1-2 days after their treatment, with the full result settling in by day 14. Treatment outcomes vary for each individual and are not guaranteed. If you decide not to continue repeating your treatments, your muscle activity will gradually return and your wrinkles will slowly reappear. Your wrinkles will not be worse than before you began treatment. If you don’t receive the result you expected, the treatment isn’t a failure, you may simply need more product due to a number of factors we will discuss and explain at your consultation.
