Frequently Asked Questions

  • Prescription only medicine professionally administered for 18 years and over. Muscle relaxants may be injected into the masseter muscle for both medical and cosmetic purposes. This neurotoxin is diluted and administered in small amounts to temporarily reduce muscle activity.

  • These treatments aim to reduce the strength and activity of the masseter muscle. This may assist in managing conditions such as teeth grinding (bruxism) and clenching. In addition to these functional effects, reducing the masseter muscle activity can result in a change in the appearance of the lower face. This may lead to a slimmer jawline or a softer facial contour, depending on individual anatomy and treatment goals.

  • This treatment may last up to approximately 4 months. Each individual is different and results cannot be guaranteed. Regular treatments may help improve the longevity of the treatment’s effects.

  • As with any cosmetic medical treatment, occasional side effects can occur. These can include headaches, pain, bruising, swelling, itchiness, a feeling of pins and needles or redness at the injection site, flu-like symptoms, migration and neuromuscular disorders. If you experience any of these unwanted side effects you should consult contact us straight away. Although uncommon – these side effects can occur and will be discussed at your consultation.

  • Most people start to see results from 1 week post treatment with the full result settling in about 2 weeks. Treatment outcomes vary for each individual and are not guaranteed.
